This guy was the real deal. He came to Arizona—past his prime and away from the league—where no running back can be successful, especially in that time, and he took on hits guys twice his size would flinch from. I’ve never seen a football player at that size attack contact like that and brush them off. This is why he could open up the field and use his speed, because he wasn’t afraid to get hit! Totally underestimated by his toughness! And he had great hands too! Perfect back for any era.

John Ross isn't even that fastest to run the 40 but he is the fastest in NFL his recorded. Christian Coleman i think that his name ran 4.12. They won't to see who can hit top speeds quicker and obviously John Ross took that it is important for WR to get off the line quick. That why they have 3 laser i think if I remember from the link they have at the 10 yard and 20 yard 10 too see how explosive they are and 20 they're going into stride. They want to see the peak of their speed. But I do understand what you trying to get at because it depends how long that person can keep that up.

Each chart will show that they do not reach top speed til around the 50m mark. On the first chart you will see it Ben Johnson and Carl Lewis. Ben's numbers are the first 3 rows and Carl's the last 3. Each vertical column is 10m. The first column is 0-10m, 2nd is 10-20, 3rd 20-30 and so on. The second horizontal row in each section is the time it took them to complete those 10m. The numbers go down as you move to the right. The numbers dip to around .87 to .84. This is when they hit top speed. Count the columns to where those numbers are. It should be the 5th (40-50m)or 6th (50-60m) column. This shows where they all reached top speed. You can look at any 10m split chart and follow the descending numbers that go from 1.xx to .8x.
The columns and rows are switched in this chart, but the results are the same.
This is a study done by J. Hum Kinet and published in the Journal of Human Kinetics. In the second section under the heading "Introduction" will see that they came up with Top-level sprinters reach their maximum speed between 50 and 70 m. Which is what \i have been saying all along.

@RedXkiller lol! If the 40 measured how fast these guys run you'd be right. Unfortunately the 40 only measures quickness and partial acceleration because the really fast guys don't reach top speed til about 50m out. They are still accelerating beyond the 40yd mark. So tell me, how can the 40 determine who's FASTEST when they aren't even running their fastest? It can't. It's too short to measure top speed. Top speed is part of how fast you are. Without it you cannot determine who is the fastest. The 100m is the standard for speed for the entire world. That race decides who is the fastest on the planet. That said, Ross' and CJ2K's 100m bests are both 10.66. That time ties them for 77th all time in NFL history anong players with verified 100m times.
